22 Jan Andasibe, Antananarivo & Anjajavy – Madagascar – 8 Nights
Day 1: Antananarivo
Meet and greet on arrival at Ivato airport and transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Antanarivo.
Day 2: Antananarivo – Andasibe
After Breakfast drive to Andasibe Reserve (130 km East). Typical highland scenery of terraced slopes and flooded rice paddies in the valleys bottoms, patches of rainforest on the steeper slopes. On your way you will make a stop at Mandraka to visit Pereyras private farm which houses various species of butterflies, chameleons, reptiles and other animals. The center is intended to repopulate areas where these species are threatened of extinction because of the constant deforestation and frequent bush fires. Continue to Andasibe. Visit of the private reserve of Vakona where it is possible to approach lemurs so close that you can feed them (provided you have bananas). In the evening enjoy dinner before a night ride to observe nocturnal species present in Vakona reserve. Overnight in Andasibe.
Day 3 Andasibe – Antananarivo
After breakfast explore the exceptional reserve of Analamazaotra on foot (2-3 hours) where the legendary indri (Indri indri) is endemic to this region. This is the largest of the lemurs (65 cm in height and weight +/- 25 kg) and also the noisiest, known for his plaintive cry. Unlike all lemurs, it has no tail, but only a stump instead. The indri is the only monogamous species; if one spouse happens to die, the other will remain a widower from the rest of his life raising his offspring. This reserve is also the stronghold of 11 species of diurnal and nocturnal lemurs, as the griffon lemur (Eulemur fulvus fulvus), bellied lemur (Eulemur rubriventer), the woolly avahi (Avahi laniger), gray bamboo lemur (Hapalemur griseus) and the vari lemur or lemur maned (Varecia variegata). Enigmatic insects, chameleons, tenrecs and colorful birds can be seen on a guided hike through the jungle. The lushness of the vegetation will also deliver its riches. Find creepers endless pandanus trees such precious rosewood, ferns, lichens, epiphytic orchids, medicinal plants, etc. In the afternoon depart to Antananarivo. Overnight in Antananarivo.
Day 4: Antananarivo – Anjajavy
After breakfast transfer to Ivato airport for your flight to Anjajavy hotel (+/- 90min). Welcome at Anjajavy private landing strip and transferred by car to the hotel. Overnight in Anjajavy.
Day 5 – Day 7: Anjajavy
Anjajavy is a luxury hotel on the Mozambique Channel, where several kind of activities (land or sea) are proposed: discovery of dry forest fauna / flora to observe lemurs (sifaka, brown lemurs and possibly microcebe lemurs), see stalactites / stalagmites caves, water skiing, catamaran sailing, windsurfing, scuba diving, snorkeling or visit the surrounding villages. Overnight at the Anjajavy Hotel.
Day 8: Anjajavy – Antananarivo
After breakfast catch your flight back to Antananarivo. Meet and greet on arrival at Ivato airport and on the way visit the handicraft market of Digue. The afternoon is free to explore the city on foot. Overnight in Antananarivo.
Day 9: Antananarivo
After breakfast depart to visit the Palace of Ambohimanga, which means the blue hill, 20km from Antananarivo & a remnant of the Imerna culture, summer palace of kings and queens. Listed World Heritage Site by Unesco. You can choose to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before you go back to Antananarivo to enjoy a city tour to see artisans in the afternoon.
